This year, I had the honor of participating in Performance in Flux, a multi immersive initiative created by artist Tere Garcia, which was featured at Luminaria light and sound festival in San Antonio. Conceived as a platform for artists to express themselves through performance art, the program was born from the recognition of the need for immersive, multi-sensory spaces where artists can explore the layered dimensions of performance as an expressive medium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Influenced by the experimental ethos of the Fluxus art movement, Performance in Flux seeks to transcend conventional artistic boundaries. From immersive happenings and spontaneous interventions to avant-garde multimedia experiences, the initiative celebrates the diversity and innovation inherent in performance art\u2014embracing experimentation, collaboration, and the unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was thrilled to present Bright Lights, one of several featured works in the showcase, alongside artists Meg Cook and Krista Steinke. Bright Lights explored the intersection of illumination, sound, and human presence\u2014using shifting color, rhythm, and spatial sound design to evoke moments of reflection and collective experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, I served as composer and writer for A Tiny Red Dot (and other hidden messages) (2024), an experimental video work that examines the interconnectedness of nature while reflecting on our shared responsibility to protect the environment and one another. The \u201cred dot\u201d in this piece is embodied by the ladybug, a universal symbol of transformation, grace, and ecological balance. Drawing inspiration from Carl Sagan\u2019s \u201cA Pale Blue Dot\u201d, the video moves from the vastness of cosmic perspective to the microscopic worlds beneath rocks, leaves, sand, and soil. Through a collage of 4K video, manipulated analog footage, NASA imagery, and experimental effects, the work becomes a poetic meditation on time, space, and the invisible threads that bind all living things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together, these projects embody the essence of Performance in Flux\u2014art in motion, uncontained by form, and guided by the belief that performance can illuminate new ways of seeing, feeling, and connecting within our shared human and ecological landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
